On Wednesday 20th of August, Dr Róisín Costello published an op-ed in The Irish Times. The piece draws on Dr Costello’s AHRC-funded research on language rights in courtrooms and examines the shortcomings in the interpretation services offered in courtrooms in Ireland and the impacts on Irish speakers (as well as other minority language speakers). The op-ed specifically highlights cases such as the Kneecap trial, illustrating the challenges Irish speakers face when accessing justice without adequate interpretation services.
